Despite the unmistakable vocal presence of pioneering reggae deejay U-Roy, Love Trio is not a reggae band. And despite this album’s appearance at first glance, it is not a remix album. The Dark Mixes,is a heavier, deeper
mix of the album that came before. It’s an album for a later night. And though there’s a strong reggae influence in the music Love Trio makes, they are much much more. They are true musical globalists. Their sound is an inclusive hybrid of the electronic, jazz and dub worlds, with a generous assortment of other influences creeping in at the edges.
Through years of late night sessions at Nublu—the Lower East Side club keyboardist and saxophonist Ilhan Ersahin founded—Love Trio hasbegun to perfect their sound. And it’s a very new sound they’ve collectively created. The technically skilled, but loose feel of each song reflects the culture of Nublu itself. Founded only a few years ago, Nublu has always been the place where Ersahin would get together with world-class fellow musicians to perfect their own particular style of expression. Bassist Jesse
Murphy of the Brazilian Girls and drummer Kenny Wollesen of Tom Waits renown are virtuosos in their own right. Together with multi-talented Ersahin and the legendary U-Roy, the music they make truly combines genres and flies outside the bounds of traditional classifications.

The Dark Mixes gives their previous effort a more textured vibe and provides a darker backdrop for the multitude of influences that define each selection. It’s a taste of the late night Nublu sound,and it’s a deep,
soulful vibe.
